Another perfect day
Today was one of those amazing days when everything is just perfect. Most of my Sundays are pretty nice, just because they are so different from the other days of the week: I get to see my best friends, we have Sunday School at church (which is SO good!!), small group with the girls and on the good weeks I get to go to Carroll and Jay's church in the evening.
Today though was just the best. For once, I got enough sleep, kind of rushed through my devotional time, but left on time for church. We had worship team practice, which was such a praise. We were practicing "Give us clean hands" and somebody started a really good conversation based on the line "We turn our eyes from evil things, Oh Lord, we cast down our idols" about what our idols are today and how we can cast them down. Somebody made a really good point that, when singing worship songs, there is a danger to just enjoy the catchy tune and not really think about the lyrics. I think a lot of people (myself included) like songs for the music more than the lyrics and, even worse, don't THINK about the lyrics. They are true, but do we really believe what they say? Do we apply them?
There was also this awesome moment in the service when we were singing 'Open the eyes of my heart' followed by 'Give us clean hands'. The leader took some time to explain that when God opens our eyes, we see His holiness (which explains the 'Holy, holy, holy's at the end of the song), and seeing His holiness makes us realize how sinful we are and how much we need His cleaning us, so we sang those 2 songs one after the other. It was a really good time of THINKING about things.
The sermon was also SO GOOD, from Colossians 1:9-12. I just love that prayer and I thought our pastor did a really good job explaining it.
After church, I walked home with Ruth and got an update on her life and then we had lunch together (she fed me). It was again good times and I'm really thankful for having her in my life. In the evening I took a long walk and listened to a CD with hymns in contemporary style that I got for my mom. I just love that CD, can't wait to share it with my family! Soon!!
I found one of the songs on youtube. There's something about this song that makes me feel closer to heaven.
