God's way

Ps 27:4: "One thing have I asked of the LORD, that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the LORD and to inquire in His temple."

Our deepest desires

I recently found a quote from CS Lewis that made me think a lot : "We are half-hearted creatures, fooling about with drink and sex and ambition when infinite joy is offered us, like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a holiday at the sea. We are far too easily pleased." (CS Lewis "The weight of Glory and Other Addresses")

But we are not pleased, even though we think we are. We were created to be fully satisfied in Christ alone, but we try to fill the void in our soul with other things. I love verses that talk about what our deepest desire should be, because I know the Word of God is true and that it "judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart" (Heb 4:12).

Ps 73:25: "Whom have I in heaven but you?
And there is nothing on earth that I desire besides you."

Ps 143:6: "I stretch out my hands to you;
my soul thirsts for you like a parched land."

Isa 26:9a: "My soul yearns for you in the night;
my spirit within me earnestly seeks you."

Ps 42:2: "My soul thirsts for God,
for the living God.
When shall I come and appear before God?"

Ps 63:1:
"O God, you are my God; earnestly I seek you;
my soul thirsts for you;
my flesh faints for you,
as in a dry and weary land where there is no water."

Ps 16:11 :
"You make known to me the path of life;
in your presence there is fullness of joy;
at your right hand are pleasures forevermore."

Overflowing with thankfulness

Just a couple of verses of God's promises for those who wait upon Him...

Isa 40:30,31: "Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted; but they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint."

Ps 34:37:
"Wait for the LORD and keep his way. He will exalt you to inherit the land; when the wicked are cut off, you will see it."

Ps 40:1-3: "I waited patiently for the LORD; he inclined to me and heard my cry. He drew me up from the pit of destruction, out of the miry bog, and set my feet upon a rock, making my steps secure. He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God. Many will see and fear, and put their trust in the LORD."

Isa 30:18: "Therefore the LORD waits to be gracious to you, and therefore he exalts himself to show mercy to you. For the LORD is a God of justice; blessed are all those who wait for him."

Lamentations 3:22-24: "The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. "The LORD is my portion," says my soul, "therefore I will hope in him.""

And I really feel the need to add..

Prov 30:5: "Every word of God proves true; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him."
